The overall purpose of this project is to develop and build a functioning heat pipe. A heat pipe is a type of heat exchanger used in both industrial and commercial settings due to its high efficiency and low construction and operating costs. Heat pipes work by transferring energy in the form of latent heat through the vaporization and condensation of a working fluid within the pipes. The pipes are sealed systems, allowing them to function completely on their own.
The major goals associated with this project are as follows:
- Research current designs and materials used to build heat pipes
- Design a low cost heat pipe that can be used for low temperature settings (250-500˚F)
- Construct and test the heat pipe prototype.
